Promotional Belt Testing
Promotional belt testing is an important milestone in a student’s karate journey. It reflects steady training, focus, and progress as students demonstrate the skills they’ve been developing in class.
At Karate West, belt testing takes place three times each year – February, June, and October.
FOR STUDENTS NEW TO TESTING
For Little Dragons and beginner Youth students, testing is designed to be a positive and supportive experience. These students are not evaluated with a pass/fail mindset. Our goal is to help new students feel comfortable with the testing process, build confidence as they demonstrate their skills, and experience the pride of showing what they’ve learned. If your child meets the eligibility requirements, we encourage them to participate.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO TEST
Students are eligible to participate if they meet the following guidelines:
• New students have completed at least one month of training
• Returning students cannot have missed more than one month of training since the previous testing cycle
If your child has not yet met these requirements, they will be eligible for the next testing cycle in June.
WINTER 2026 TESTING SCHEDULE
(Excludes students testing for Black Belt)
Little Dragon & Youth White Belt through Yellow Belt with Black Stripe.
These students will test in their regular class or may test in any other class of the same rank.
Testing dates for these ranks are:
Little Dragons
Saturday, February 7 at 9:00 am
Friday, February 13 at 4:15 pm
Youth – White and Yellow Belts
Saturday, February 7 at 9:00 am
Wednesday, February 11 at 4:30 pm or 5:15 pm
Thursday, February 12 at 4:15 pm
Friday, February 13 at 5:00 pm
Note: All karate classes above Blue Belt remain open during this week.
Main Belt Test – Colored Belts
Blue through Brown with Black Stripe
Saturday, February 14
• Blue & Orange Belts – 9:00 am
• Purple & Green Belts – 10:30 am
• Brown Belts – 12:00 pm
Note: Regular karate classes and weapons class are closed on Saturday, February 14 for belt testing.
Make-Up Test (All Ranks)
Friday, February 6
All Belts – 6:00 pm
NO TESTING REGISTRATION –NEW FOR 2026
To make testing simple for families, test pre-registration is no longer required. Students who are eligible are automatically registered internally for testing during the February, June, and October testing cycles.
