Great school, the kids have a lot of fun and the instructors are very serious. When you see a kid with a black belt you know they worked a lot to reach there.

I knew nothing about martial arts when our sons started training at Karate West almost 5 years ago (they were ages 4y and 8y). In fact I thought it might make them fight.
But now I’m so glad we gave it a try! They have learned leadership skills and how to stand up to bullies (without fighting). They’ve learned about healthy life style and goal setting.
My shy little boy found his confidence and my busy little boy found his focus. We’ve also made some awesome friends and the boys have found a passion that keeps challenging them both physically and mentally!

I went to Karate West as a child and now my two boys are students at the Issaquah Dojo. While Karate West is a large school, they do an amazing job of creating personal connections with the students and parents. I highly recommend Karate West!

Me and my two girls go to Karate West, we couldn’t ask for a better place to supply our girls with a large number of role models.

I attended this school as a teen until I left for college and I can honestly say that Karate West is on of the reasons that I am a successful adult today. This school not only teaches students martial arts but arguably more important are the life skills they show their students. I owe Karate West and it team of amazing teachers and assistants for my success in life.

Testing

It’s Belt Promotions Testing time!

It’s Belt Promotions Testing time!

We know that June is an incredibly busy time with finals, graduations, parties, and vacations.  We added several test dates and times to our June testing in the hopes of making testing as flexible and easy as possible!

Power Mission Workshop and Practice

We will be offering our very popular Power Mission Workshop for $35 again this testing cycle. It will be at 6:30pm on Friday, June 7th. As this workshop always fills up fast, registration is required, and no drop-ins will be allowed. The Power Mission Workshop is for students age 7 and up with at least a yellow belt. Please register for this event.

We are also offering Open Training Time on Saturday, June 1st from 12pm to 2pm. Anyone is allowed to come and practice their test material. This is not the time to learn your material though. It is for practice only. Parents are required to stay with any students under the age of 12. No registration is required for this event.

Test Results / Belt Awards Week

Youth, Teen and Adult students will receive their test results in a one-on-one conference during their first class of the week following the test.  For the June test, results will be distributed on June 15th, 17th and 18th.  Students will get results in their regular class or can come anytime the dojo is open to receive their results.  New belts will be awarded during the second class of the week following the test.  For the  for Youth, Teen and Adult students. June test, belts will be awarded on June 19th, 20th, and 22nd.  Parents are welcome to join in the conference and the belt awards.

Belt awards for Youth, Teen and Adult students will be done differently with this test.  When the students arrive during belt award days, they will check-in just like at the test.  They will receive their belt and take it to the awards table in their class.  During class, the Sensei will present belts to students.  Schedules are difficult that week, but we are encouraging students to attend their regular class for belt awards.  However, if they cannot, they are welcome to attend any class to receive their belt award.  We also hope this will make it easier for parents with multiple children receiving new belts.  They can all go to one class or schedule their awards consecutively in different classes.

For Tiny Tiger students, testing and belt awards are done in class at the dojo where they normally train.  See the registration page for exact dates.

For Little Dragon students, testing is held on two different dates for the Issaquah dojo. Students at the Mercer Island dojo will test in their class on June 19th. Belt awards for both dojo’s students will be in their next regular class after the test.

New Schedule / New Classes

The new schedule for Youth, Teen and Adult students will be available on Monday of the week following the test, June 17th beginning at noon.  New classes will begin the following week, June 24th.

Registration for Tests

The deadline for registering for our June tests is Saturday, June 1st. Each test has a limited number of spots available for students, so if you need a particular date, register early. For students registering after the deadline, there will be a $10 late fee included in the registration fee and a belt may not be available for awarding.
