Youth Martial Arts Classes in Issaquah
Give Your Child the Confidence to Lead
Traditional karate training that builds discipline, resilience, and character for ages 7 to 12.
Character Development
More Than Kicks and Punches
Helping kids grow into focused, respectful young leaders.
Every class at Karate West is designed around a simple idea: martial arts changes how children see themselves. Our youth curriculum weaves values like respect, responsibility, and effort into every drill. Students don’t just learn karate; they develop the focus and self-discipline that carry over to the classroom, the dinner table, and every challenge life puts in front of them.
Our Program
A Structured Path for Young Martial Artists
Our youth program is built for children ages 7 to 12, balancing the structure of traditional Shudokan Karate with the energy and enthusiasm kids bring to the mat. No prior experience is necessary. We meet every student where they are and help them build from there.
Each 45-minute class focuses on karate fundamentals, coordination, and physical strength in a supportive environment. Students master new techniques at their own pace while developing the perseverance to push through difficulty. Choose between one or two classes per week to match your family’s schedule.

The Karate West Difference
Why Issaquah families trust our dojo with their child’s growth.
Over 37 Years of Expertise
Our instructors have spent decades refining how they teach young students. That experience means your child receives safe, high-quality instruction rooted in authentic martial arts tradition.
A True Community
This dojo is more than a training facility. Families build lasting friendships here, and students support one another through every belt promotion and every tough class.
Built for Every Child
Your child does not need to be athletic or coordinated to start. Our beginner-friendly program is designed so every student participates, progresses, and feels proud of their effort.
No Contract, No Pressure
We earn your family’s loyalty every month. Cancel your membership at any time with no hidden fees and no difficult cancellation process.

What Your Child Gains on the Mat
Our training develops the whole child, not just their technique.
Physical Foundations
Students build coordination, balance, and core strength through functional training. These skills create a healthy outlet for energy and improve performance in other sports and activities.
Mental Toughness
Martial arts teaches children to stay calm when things get hard. By working through challenges on the mat, your child develops a “keep going” mindset that serves them in school and beyond.
Leadership and Responsibility
As students advance through the ranks, they learn to lead warm-ups, encourage newer classmates, and take ownership of their progress. These habits shape how they carry themselves everywhere.

What Parents are Saying
Helped Us Persevere to Become Better
“My children have been attending Karate West for almost nine years now. The instructors are like extended family. They have seen us at our worst and helped us persevere to become better, both as individuals and as members of our community. Karate West teaches not only martial arts, but also life skills which we can all apply.”

Grown From Shy Children Into Confident Black Belts
“We enrolled our kids at Karate West over 10 years ago when they were in first grade, and it has been a joy to watch karate become a part of their identity as young adults. Now 16, our boys have grown from shy children into confident second-degree black belts. They truly love their dojo and plan to continue training here until they head off to college.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our Youth Martial Arts program.
Does my child need any martial arts experience?
None at all. Our youth program welcomes complete beginners and provides the foundational training they need to build skill and confidence from day one.
Is this a competitive program?
Our focus is personal growth, not trophies. We prioritize character development and individual progress over competition, helping each student become a better version of themselves.
What days and times are classes offered?
We offer evening sessions on weekdays and morning options on Saturdays. Students can attend one or two days per week depending on the membership option you choose. Visit our class schedule for specific times.
Is sparring safe, and what equipment is needed to participate?
Safety is our top priority. Students participate in structured weekly point sparring under close instructor supervision. White belts may borrow loaner equipment during their beginner stage. Once a student reaches yellow belt, they are required to purchase their own protective gear: helmet, boots, and gloves for proper fit and hygiene.
