Preschool Martial Arts Classes in Issaquah
Where Little Learners Become Leaders
High-energy karate classes for ages 4 to 6 that build focus, confidence, and character.
Early Childhood Development
The Years That Shape Everything
Why the right activity at the right age makes all the difference.
Between ages four and six, children are wired to absorb everything around them. Every new skill, every interaction with a teacher, every small victory shapes how they see themselves. This is the window where habits form and confidence takes root.
Our Little Dragons program meets children in this critical season. Through short, structured karate classes, we channel their natural energy into purposeful movement, turning wiggles into focus and shyness into self-assurance.
Our Program
30-Minute Classes Built for Young Minds
Little Dragons sessions are designed around how preschool and kindergarten students actually learn. Each class is 30 minutes of structured, high-energy training that holds attention without overwhelming it.
Students attend one session per week and choose the time that fits their family’s routine. Our instructors use age-appropriate drills to introduce martial arts basics while reinforcing skills like listening, following directions, and taking turns.

The Karate West Difference
Why Issaquah families choose our dojo for their child’s first martial arts experience.
Over 37 Years of Expertise
We have helped thousands of young students take their first steps on the mat. Our instructors know how to guide kindergarteners with patience and genuine care.
A Family, Not a Gym
Karate West is a community where parents and children build friendships that extend beyond the dojo. We foster connection and support in everything we do.
Every Child Belongs Here
No coordination test. No tryouts. Our program welcomes every child at their own starting point and helps them grow at a pace that feels right.
No Contract, No Surprises
We earn your trust month to month. Cancel your membership anytime with no hidden fees and no complicated cancellation process.

Changes You Will Notice at Home and School
Our curriculum goes beyond kicks and blocks. Here is what parents consistently tell us they see after just a few weeks in the program.
Sharper Focus
Following multi-step instructions on the mat trains the same attention skills your child needs in the classroom. Parents often report improved listening at home and better engagement during school activities.
Stronger Coordination
Age-appropriate agility drills build balance, spatial awareness, and core strength. These physical foundations give children confidence in their bodies and a healthy outlet for their boundless energy.
Greater Self-Assurance
When a child earns a new technique or leads a warm-up for the first time, something shifts. They stand taller. They speak up. That quiet confidence follows them off the mat and into every part of their day.
What Parents are Saying
Brought Him Out of His Shell
“Our son’s 3rd grade teacher recommended Karate West because our son is super shy (unlike our oldest child!!) and we wanted to put him in something that would help build him up and bring him out of his shell. But when we got to our first lesson, our son wouldn’t get out of the car!!! One of the teachers saw our struggles and she actually came out to the car and talked to him, encouraging him to just come inside and watch. It did the trick!! He only watched for a few minutes before jumping into class. He loved it and talked about it all night. It was a great day and he can’t wait to go again next week!!”

King, Patient, and Dedicated
“We’ve had four kids attend Karate West over the past several years. Currently our oldest two are still training as black belts and our younger two are working their way towards that goal.
In every situation, the best part of Karate West has always been the people who work there! They are the best! They are kind, patient, and dedicated. They serve as great examples for my kids and my kids have learned a lot about perseverance, hard work, and dedication through karate. I highly recommend Karate West!”

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our Little Dragons program.
Is four years old too young for martial arts?
Not at all. Our Little Dragons program is specifically designed for children ages four to six. Every drill, technique, and interaction is adapted to match their developmental stage and attention span.
What should my child wear to their first class?
We provide a Karate West uniform as part of the trial so they
can change and be ready before class begins. Please have your child arrive 15 minutes early for their first class.
Will this prepare my child for the Youth program?
Yes. The Little Dragons curriculum is structured as a bridge to our Youth Martial Arts program for ages seven to twelve. Students develop the coordination, focus, and discipline they need for a confident transition.
How do you keep young children safe during class?
Safety is built into every aspect of our training. Classes are non-contact, led by professional instructors, and designed with age-appropriate techniques that prioritize control and body awareness over intensity.
What if my child is shy or has trouble focusing?
That’s completely normal at this age. Our instructors are experienced in guiding young children with patience, clear structure, and positive encouragement. Over time, students learn to follow directions, stay engaged, and grow more confident.
What if my child is reserved and doesn’t participate much at first?
That’s not unusual. Some children simply need time to feel comfortable in a new environment. If your child needs extra time to warm up, we are happy to add an additional class to your trial so they can settle in at their own pace.
